Questions and Answers about MID CARES

for Low Income Customers

Examples of proof of income are:

  • Pay stubs totaling one month of income.
  • Your yearly social security summary or benefit letter.
  • A copy of a recent disability or unemployment statement or pay stub.

How Long Before I See the Discount?

  • If approved, your discount will show up on your MID bill in about 4 to 6 weeks.

When Will I Have to Apply for the Discount Again?

  • You will receive a 60 day notice to recertify the discount before it expires.

How Much Will the Discount Lower My Bill?

  • Your enrollment in MID CARES (Community Alternative Rates for Electric Service) reduces your fixed monthly charge and includes a 23% discount on the first 850kWh you use each month.
